General James Mattis

General James Mattis was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. A graduate of Central Washington State College, he served over forty years in the Marines as an infantry officer doing the usual duties associated with our naval forces. He retired as a general and subsequently served two years as the nation’s twenty-sixth secretary of defense. Currently he is the Davies Family Distinguished Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
